The mission of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center is to further develop our vibrant LGBTQ+ community in the greater Milwaukee area, thus improving the quality of life for all of us.
This is an opportunity for a visionary leader to make a transformational difference for metro Milwaukee's LGBTQ+ community while advancing social justice for all. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, including client services, programming, fundraising, business operations and public relations. In addition to these general management skills, the successful candidate will demonstrate a keen understanding of the diversity of LGBTQ+ identities, cultures and communities. They will have insight into the overall needs and concerns of individuals regarding sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, race, class, age, ability, experience of interpersonal violence and other trauma, and the intersection of multiple identities.This is a full-time, exempt position, hired by and directly accountable to the board of directors.
Minimum qualifications:• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a relevant field. In exceptional cases, prior experience in a similar executive role may be used in lieu of a college degree.• At least five years’ progressive experience working in a nonprofit organization and with a board of directors. Prior experience as an Executive Director or in a similar role is preferred.• At least five years of successful experience in managing staff and volunteers, including formal performance management.• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration statuses and abilities.• Working knowledge of nonprofit fiscal management, including fund accounting, government grant management and budgeting.• Proven experience in the raising of private, public and foundational capital.• Strong written communication skills.• Demonstrated ability in public speaking and interpersonal relations.• Proven success in developing and implementing nonprofit services and programming.• Experience in strategic planning and financial analysis.
