Mission Statement: 

National Center for Transgender Equality is the nation’s leading social justice advocacy organization winning life-saving change for transgender people. NCTE is devoted to ending discrimination and violence against transgender people through education, advocacy and collaboration on national issues of importance. Launched in 2017, the National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund (NCTE Action Fund) is a 501(c)(4) non-profit advocacy organization fighting for transgender equality at the local, state, and federal levels affiliated with the NCTE. The two organizations share office space and staff, including this position.

Position Description: 

NCTE seeks a well-rounded community organizer and project manager, who will be developing and executing various strategies to mobilize transgender people, their families, and allies, and creating a diverse network of local advocates throughout the country that NCTE can reliably reach out through to take action to press for transgender equality. Over the course of a typical year, NCTE prioritizes organizing community members to respond to anti-transgender and pro-transgender bills during state legislative sessions, take action related to federal legislation and policies, participate in elections, and participate in national lobby days in Washington, DC and other events. The National Organizer will also provide various trainings for advocates throughout the country. Throughout all of their work, the National Organizer will apply values of racial and economic justice and ensure diversity amongst communities we are organizing and training. The National Organizer will be overseen by the Director of External Relations and will work collaboratively with staff across both organizations (NCTE and NCTE Action Fund).Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelops relationships with local and state transgender, LGBT, and other allied organizations, as well as individual transgender and allied advocates, to support their work and be able to communicate and activate them to press for transgender equalityWorks with state and national organizations to defeat anti-transgender legislation at the local, state, and federal levels as well as pass pro-transgender legislation at these levels by engaging in organizing and mobilizing transgender and allied communities, occasionally traveling to different parts of the countryOrganizes and mobilizes transgender people, their families, and allies to vote and otherwise engage in elections, including specific elections that NCTE Action Fund has prioritizedOrganizes the programming, recruitment for, and logistics of Transgender Lobby Days or similar Congressional education activities in Washington, DCOrganizes community protests, typically in coalition with other organizations, against anti-transgender or other governmental actionsAlong with the Communications and Outreach & Education departments, helps create written and video content to mobilize and train trans people, their families, and allies to take action at the local, state and national levelsResponds to constantly shifting daily events and priorities with strategic thinking and planning and humor and enthusiasmManages tracking systems for supportersRepresents the organizations in coalition workOther duties, as assigned
