Mission Statement: 

With the belief that people who are sick should not be without food, Open Arms is the only nonprofit organization in Minnesota that cooks and delivers free meals specifically tailored to meet the nutritional needs of individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS, MS, ALS, breast cancer and more than 60 other diseases. Open Arms also works with communities in sub-Saharan Africa, providing food and technical assistance for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. More than 1,900 volunteers commit their time and talent to Open Arms to make sure people in our community with life-threatening illnesses, who find themselves unable to shop or cook or who have no support network to help, are nourished in body and spirit. 

Position Description: 

Open Arms is seeking an energetic and innovative leader to serve as its development director. The development director reports to the executive director and is responsible for all aspects of fundraising, marketing, and communications. The development director is expected to lead in the development and implementation of plans to grow the contributed revenues of the organization. Specifically, the development director is responsible for: ·      Overseeing all aspects of a full-scale development effort, starting with individual and major giving and also including corporate and foundation giving, annual fund, e fundraising, fundraising events, special and capital campaigns, endowment fundraising, and stewardship.·      Overseeing marketing and communications (including management of the brand; support for development and events, support for volunteer and community outreach, publications, media relations, electronic communications and social media).·      Partnering with the executive director to build sustainable relationships and garner resources that support the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.·      Engendering a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization and its constituencies·      Setting and meeting stretch fundraising goals and achieving marketing benchmarks.·      Leading, coaching, training and motivating members of the development and marketing teams.Developing and implementing fundraising and marketing plans and budgets.

Qualifications: 

Qualifications include: a bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred); five or more years’ experience in nonprofit fundraising and marketing and communications; experience building and maintaining relationships with key donors and leaders; success in obtaining and stewarding individual gifts; success in building, leading and motivating a team; strong management skills; excellent verbal and written communications skills; familiarity with the philanthropic community; familiarity with donor databases and ability to use database information for purposes of analysis; a proven track record in prospecting, cultivating, procuring, and stewarding gifts; a history of setting and meeting stretch goals; personal presence that garners respect from clients, donors, volunteers, and the community at large; ability to think outside of the box.

Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
