Position Description: 

 The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) seeks a Director of Finance and Operations to serve as a senior leader responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency and fiscal health of the organization by overseeing all financial and operations-related needs. This includes supervising two full-time staff members and being ultimately responsible for human resources, staff development, finance, budgeting, technology, and other aspects of NCTE’s day-to-day operations. Duties and Responsibilities Finance

  • Develop, monitor and report on the organization’s budget, including monthly reports to the Board, working with the Operations Manager, external accounting firm as well as the Development Director to ensure NCTE is on target with fundraising needs
  • Supervise the Operations Manager, ensuring that financial transactions are processed and recorded in a timely fashion
  • Manage the organization’s relationship with our external accounting firm, auditor, and other finance-related external vendors, including serving as the lead point of contact on all matters related to tax filings, audits, and other financial matters
  • Create and ensure compliance with organization-wide financial policies and internal controls

Human Resources

  • Serve as the head of Human Resources, including managing all aspects of onboarding/offboarding staff, compliance with state and federal requirements in conjunction with NCTE’s attorneys, and all other issues related to human resources administration
  • Develop programs for staff hiring, training, development, and evaluation to nurture an organizational culture of sustainable excellence and collaboration and a culture that matches NCTE’s commitment to racial and economic justice
  • Oversee NCTE’s internship and volunteer programs
  • Oversee administration of NCTE employee benefits
  • Revise employee handbook annually or as needed

Operations

  • Oversee all organization operations, including all aspects of physical office space, computers, phones, and other needs
  • Ensure staff have technological needs met, including telephones, computers, internet access, data storage, and email systems
  • Lead all vendor selection processes, including reviewing contracts with our attorneys when needed
  • Supervise relevant staff

Qualifications: 

Qualifications: 

  • Experience: Preferably at least 3 years of experience in finance/operations with a non-profit of similar or larger size than NCTE (17 staff members) as well as having supervised at least two staff in previous positions
  • Prioritization and detail orientation: Ability to set and meet goals, prioritize, plan, manage, and complete work on time while maintaining optimum quality in a fast-moving environment
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills: Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks independently
  • Project leadership: Experience in planning and executing initiatives within and across departments
  • Commitment to social justice: An understanding of issues affecting transgender people as well as an understanding of racism, classism and other systems of inter-connected oppressions
  • Collaborative spirit: Ability to work as integral part of a team of hard-working, energetic professionals, taking input from a variety of assertive colleagues
  • Optimism and humor: Ability to deal with routine work as well as any urgent situation with humor and enthusiasm
