Mission Statement: 

The mission of the Brooklyn Community Pride Center is to provide support and services to the borough’s LGBTQ community through original programming and in partnership with existing organizations. The Brooklyn Community Pride Center provides a safe, common space offering physical and mental health services, social support, recreational and cultural programming, as well as being a hub of information for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals and families in Brooklyn.Through promotion of the empowerment, development, and general welfare of the LGBTQ community with emphasis on gender, racial, and ethnic parity, we are committed to affecting positive change within our Borough, and the community at large.

Position Description: 

The Executive Director has overall responsibility for strategic leadership and programmatic, financial, and operational management of the Center. The Executive Director works with the board to develop and implement a multi-year strategy for continued growth in the areas of programs, fund development, facilities, and organizational visibility.Toward this end, the Executive Director’s primary responsibilities will include:Resource Development

  • Continue BCPC’s double-digit financial growth to allow continued program expansion
  • Serve as the chief development staff member for the Center
  • Draft government, foundation, and corporate grant proposals
  • Develop and implement an annual campaign
  • Develop and implement a major donor strategy
  • Coordinate with special event committee to produce the annual Gala
  • Develop additional special fundraising events using volunteer committees

Fiscal Management

  • Oversee all financial operations of the agency in a manner compliant with GAAP
  • Responsible for organization-wide adherence with internal financial controls
  • Provide regular financial reports to the Board
  • Draft annual budget for approval by the Board
  • Manage income and expenses to remain within the budget
  • Ensure compliance with all funder requirements; Federal, state, and local requirements; and organizational policy

 External Relations

  • Serve as the Center’s official spokesperson
  • Develop and implement the Center’s communication and marketing strategy
  • Ensure BCPC visibility throughout all of Brooklyn, especially areas where LGBTQ issues are misunderstood or require other support.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with Center partners, those in the government sector, and other community leaders
  • Represent the Center at public meetings and events

Organizational Management

  • Recruit, orient, supervise and train staff and volunteers
  • Manage and motivate staff and volunteers to accomplish responsibilities and goals
  • Manage government grants and contracts

Board Relations

  • Implement policies and resolutions approved by the Board
  • Work in partnership with the Board of Directors and committees on appropriate issues, policies and strategic direction
  • Provide information and counsel to the Board to help its members make informed decisions
  • Work cooperatively with the Board and its members to further the Center’s programs and mission
  • The Executive Director reports to the Board Chair

Brooklyn Community Pride Center seeks a dynamic executive with proven ability to manage the Center’s operations and its continued growth.  Specific skills, experiences, and abilities we seek in this person include:

  • 6 to 8 years staff management experience, preferably in a small or medium size nonprofit
  • At least 5 years fundraising experience
  • Experience seeking and managing government contracts
  • Knowledge of nonprofit finance, including the ability to read and interpret financial statements
  • Superior relationship building skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A passion for Brooklyn and the diverse LGBTQ communities that live, work, and play in this borough
  • Knowledge of the region’s philanthropic community
  • A bachelors degree from an accredited institution, a graduate degree is strongly preferred
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours weekly, including some evenings and weekends. 
$90,000 - $110,000
