Position Description: 

The NYC LGBT Community Center is seeking a Youth Services Prevention Counselor responsible for implementing the Center’s spectrum of activity-based, psycho-educational groups and workshops for young people, providing individual counseling/education and peer supervision services. A particular focus is maintained on using risk-reduction and psycho-educational assessment and counseling programming and activities to build resilience in LGBT youth as part of a youth leadership model. This includes administrative duties and collaboration with community partners.

Client Services

Required experience and background includes: Significant previous experience working with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth; Group facilitation, training, and counseling skills; Experience with specific evidence-based interventions (EBIs) with youth a plus; Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s in Social Work a plus; Knowledgeable in adolescent development, health and sex education, alcohol and substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, prevention and harm reduction; Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with a wide range of personalities; Strong communication skills; bilingual preferred; Must be computer literate; A strong commitment to the mission of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center. Schedule: Full-time, 35 hours per week; must be available to work ASAP, with some evenings and Saturdays required; This position is currently contract funded through June 2014.
